Onion Poha is one of the healthy breakfast recipe from Maharashtra, India. Poha is a maharashtrian word for flattened rice and kanda means onion. This is a quick and simple recipe to prepare for breakfast.
Ingredients :
2 cups Thick Poha / Flattened Rice
1-1/2 cups Water (to soak the poha)
1 Onion (chopped finely)
4 Green Chilies (slit into two)
2 Tbsp Raw Peanuts
1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
Salt To Taste
To Temper:
2 Tbsp Oil
2 tsp Chana Dal
1 tsp Mustard Seeds
1/2 tsp Urad Dal
1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
4-5 Curry Leaves
2 Dry Red Chiles
A Pinch Of Asafetida
Method :
- Take 2 cups of thick poha or thick flattened rice in a bowl.
- Add 1-1/2 cups of water and set aside.
- Take a kadai or a pan.
- Add oil and heat it on medium to low flame.
- Now add the raw peanuts and fry until it slightly changes it's color.
- Add chana dal, mustard seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds and fry until the mustard seeds start to splutter.
- Add in the curry leaves, dry red chilies and a pinch of asafetida.
- Now add in the onions and green chilies.
- Fry until the onions are translucent.
- Meanwhile check the poha, it would be moist and soaked perfectly in the water.
- Add turmeric, salt and the poha.
- Mix well and cook the poha for 2 minutes.
- Once done garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
